The distrubution of termites depends on the climatic conditions in a particular area. Areas with higher temperatures will have a higher population of termites than cooler areas. Likewise, areas with a higher humidity will have a higher termite population.

The distribution of termites in the United States is shown in the following map.

It is shown on the map that areas like Florida, with a warmer and more humid climate, have a higher termite population than areas such as Washington State, which have cooler and less humid climates. However, termites are still found in these areas. Subterranean and drywood termites are common across the United States. In New York, in fact North America as a whole, the most common species of termites is the Eastern Subterranean Termite.
